How Former ‘The Block’ Contestants Use Iver Hardware to Enhance Home Design
22 November 2024
In home design, it’s often the smallest details that make the biggest impact. From adding warmth to a coastal retreat to introducing an industrial edge to a contemporary interior, carefully selected hardware can transform a space. Here, three former The Block contestants share how they incorporate Iver hardware into their renovation projects.
Since its debut in 2003, The Block has featured a wide range of designers, each with their own unique approach to renovation. Contestants’ projects continue to reflect evolving trends in the design world. In each of these projects, Iver hardware plays a key role in enhancing both the aesthetic and functionality of their designs.
Kyal and Kara gained national recognition as contestants on The Block and have continued to build their reputation as expert renovators. Since their appearance on the show, the couple has tackled a range of renovation projects, with a focus on creating homes that blend modern design with timeless appeal. Their passion for design and hands-on approach began long before The Block, starting with small furniture restorations and evolving into larger home transformations.
House 1
For their French-inspired coastal home renovation on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Kyal and Kara chose Iver’s Brunswick collection, a whole-of-home range that made the selection process easy. The versatile collection, used throughout the home, was featured in both the kitchen joinery and the internal doors. The Satin Nickel finish complements the home’s neutral palette, with the diamond knurled detailing adding an industrial touch. The Brunswick Lever on Oval Backplate enhances the bedrooms with its sleek, tactile design, while the carefully chosen hardware ties the coastal and modern design elements together seamlessly.
For their Blue Lagoon project, Kyal and Kara aimed to create the ultimate contemporary Australian coastal home. The Brunswick Collection in Satin Nickel was chosen to complement the home’s minimalist, beach-inspired design. The Brunswick Lever on Oval Backplate added a refined, industrial touch, blending seamlessly with the home’s neutral tones and natural surroundings. The hardware’s versatility enhanced the space without overpowering the natural beauty of the materials, providing the perfect finishing touches to this idyllic coastal home design.
Andy and Deb Saunders first captured the public’s attention as contestants on The Block, where they tackled one of the biggest challenges in the show’s history — restoring and renovating The Oslo Hotel in St Kilda. Since then, they’ve continued to build their reputation as trusted voices in the world of interior design. Deb, now a qualified Interior Decorator and Stylist, and Andy, with his wit and love for design, have become a dynamic duo known for their laid-back yet sophisticated approach. Together, they help inspire Australians with their unique design ideas and insightful tips, both through their web series DNA of Design and other creative projects.
Coastal Retreat
For their coastal retreat on the Gold Coast, Andy and Deb sought to create a light, airy, and inviting space, blending relaxed coastal elements with modern sophistication. To complement the home’s neutral tones, they selected Iver’s Osaka Lever in Brushed Brass for the internal doors. The warm brass accents not only added elegance to the space but also enhanced the home’s natural coastal charm. With its refined finish and timeless design, the Osaka hardware was the perfect choice to tie the whole look together.
In their Gold Coast minimalist sanctuary project, Andy and Deb embraced the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy, blending organic textures with modern forms to create a serene, minimalist haven. With a balance of simplicity and authenticity at its core, the design reflects the beauty of imperfection. The Helsinki Lever in Brushed Brass was selected to complete the look. Its sleek, minimalist design added warmth and elegance, grounding the space without detracting from the natural beauty of the materials.
Ronnie and Georgia, well-known for their appearance on The Block, have continued to make waves in the renovation world with their distinctive style. The couple has a keen eye for blending classic and contemporary elements, often creating spaces that celebrate both timeless architecture and modern flair. Since their days on The Block they’ve worked on numerous projects, focusing on creating functional, beautiful homes that respect a property’s original character while infusing it with fresh, contemporary updates.
Mid-Century Renovation
For their renovation of a 1950s mid-century home in Embleton, WA, Ronnie and Georgia used Iver’s Osaka whole-of-home collection in Brushed Brass to unify the design. The circular motifs of the collection complemented the home’s mid-century architectural features, while the clean lines and luxurious finish of the hardware added a touch of modern sophistication. The warm, organic tones of the Osaka hardware brought a refined balance to the home, enhancing its character while staying true to its mid-century roots.
