Elevated and Timeless
“From the outset, my vision for The Avenue was to create a home that felt calm, timeless and quietly refined,” says Sally Paterson of Sydney interior and residential design studio Heliconia, who designed The Avenue for herself and her family to live in. “I wanted it to feel warm and welcoming, but also elevated; a home that doesn’t rely on trends, but instead feels grounded and enduring.”
She bought the property in 2022, demolished it in December 2023, and finished its reconstruction in April 2025, when the family moved back in. “We purchased the property mid-2022 and after living in it for a few months, started the design and planning process for what we wanted to create,” she states. “Being both the designer and the homeowner meant I could create something very customised to the way we live, and the layout reflects this. The home is generous in scale with strong connections between indoor and outdoor spaces, an emphasis on natural light and airflow, and a floorplan designed to support family life over time. Designing every inch of the home inside and out made the building journey incredibly personal.”
