Urban Habitats’ Little Archer: A New Standard for North Adelaide Living

On a quiet street in North Adelaide, two homes stand shoulder to shoulder and tell two different stories. One is a two-storey, gable-formed terrace with a distinctly modern read. The other is a contemporary reimagining of a Victorian-style terrace dwelling, its proportions and detailing gesturing back to the streetscape around it. Together, they are Little Archer, a project by Urban Habitats and UH Projects that set out, in the words of South Australian Style magazine, to establish a new standard for high-quality living in the area.

Two Homes in Conversation

Little Archer began on a single title of 194 square metres on a well-established North Adelaide street. Rather than treat that as a constraint, Urban Habitats and UH Projects used it to sharpen the brief. Each of the two attached dwellings needed to feel complete and generous, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a powder room and two living areas, delivered across 244 square metres of internal space, with its own lift and off-street parking.

Inside, the plan opens rather than compresses. Soaring three-metre ceilings on the ground floor and a skylit stairwell pull light down through the centre of the home, while courtyards work as both light wells and outdoor rooms. It’s the kind of layout that only works when architecture, interiors and construction are being considered together from day one, which is precisely how Urban Habitats builds. As both architect and builder on Little Archer, the practice could carry decisions straight from the drawing board into the joinery and the door schedule, with nothing lost in translation along the way.

Purpose in Every Layer

That same instinct for cohesion shows up in the material palette. Marble benchtops and integrated appliances anchor the kitchens; a butler’s pantry with dedicated wine storage takes the pressure off the main working space; underfloor heating in the bathrooms turns a practical necessity into a quiet luxury. Landscaping by Lee Grey Landscape Design threads greenery back through the courtyards, softening the crisp lines of the architecture. Each decision, large or small, is doing a job, which is exactly the purpose-led design thinking the project was recognised for.

Door and cabinet hardware was never going to be the exception to that rule. On a project built around the idea that every element earns its place, the things a hand touches dozens of times a day couldn’t be an afterthought.

Hardware with Intention

At the front door, Little Archer makes its first impression with the Baltimore 900mm Pull Handle in Satin Nickel, its long, clean bar setting the tone for the considered, contemporary language spoken throughout the rest of the home. Satin Nickel carries that cool, understated character inside, chosen deliberately from Iver’s finish range for its quiet versatility: warm enough to sit comfortably against timber joinery, restrained enough to let the architecture lead.

Through the interior, Bronte levers do the daily work, specified across both a rectangular backplate and a round rose depending on the door and the room. It’s a small piece of flexibility that lets the same collection flex between the more formal proportions of the living spaces and the simpler geometry of bedrooms and bathrooms, without ever feeling like two different products. Where doors slide rather than swing, a Satin Nickel Rectangular Sliding Door Pull completes the language, keeping cavity and pocket doors visually consistent with every hinged door around them.

It’s a pairing that also says something about the builder behind it. Urban Habitats specifies Iver as close to a house rule, the brand it returns to project after project, because its weight, finish and detailing align with the same values of considered craftsmanship the practice has built its reputation on. On Little Archer, that meant a builder and a hardware range pulling in the same direction from the very first fixing.

Built on Shared Values

Two homes, one hardware language, no compromise between them: that’s the quiet achievement of Little Archer. The Baltimore pull marks the threshold, the Bronte lever carries that same confidence into every room behind it, and Satin Nickel ties the whole home together in a finish built to age honestly rather than fade. For Urban Habitats, and for the two households who now call Little Archer home, it’s proof that the details worth getting right are usually the ones you touch every single day.
