Designed by Nat Wheeler — one of the creative forces behind Melbourne-based studio Norsu Interiors — this 1920s Californian bungalow renovation is a masterclass in the art of living beautifully.
Norsu Interiors’ founding philosophy, love where you live, is written into every corner of the home: in its layered palette of cool and warm pastels, its considered material pairings, and the quiet confidence of a designer who knows exactly when to restrain and when to indulge. Marble, light-toned timber and hand-selected patterned tiles move through the spaces with an ease that feels both considered and entirely personal.
Design with Intention
Norsu Interiors’ founding philosophy, love where you live, is written into every corner of the home: in its layered palette of cool and warm pastels, its considered material pairings, and the quiet confidence of a designer who knows exactly when to restrain and when to indulge. Marble, light-toned timber and hand-selected patterned tiles move through the spaces with an ease that feels both considered and entirely personal.
Geometry in the Details
The kitchen is where the home announces itself most clearly. Soft mint cabinetry sets a gentle, verdant tone, grounded by grey marble benchtops that introduce cool depth without interrupting the room’s inherent warmth. Throughout the kitchen and laundry, the Helsinki T Cabinet Pull and Osaka Cupboard Knob in Signature Brass bring tactile definition to the pale cabinetry — their clean geometry offering just enough visual interest to feel deliberate, without competing with the room’s softer moments. Signature Brass, with its warm, lacquered tone and capacity to develop character over time, is a natural companion to a palette built around the nuanced relationship between colour and light.
Grand Proportions, Quiet Moments
The living room rewards the eye at every scale. A double-vaulted ceiling draws the gaze upward, creating a sense of volume that the room’s furnishings fill with ease. A fireplace anchors the space at ground level, and floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the boundary between interior and garden, flooding the room with natural light throughout the day. The white bedroom doors carry the Osaka Lever on Oval Backplate in Signature Brass — a choice that speaks to Wheeler’s instinct for restraint. The Osaka’s clean profile and understated oval backplate allow the finish to do the expressive work: warm and luminous against white, a detail that consolidates the home’s pastel-driven palette without overstating it.
Deeply Considered
What distinguishes Norsu Home is not any single decision but the accumulation of them — the way each material, each finish, each spatial gesture reinforces a clear and unwavering point of view. For a family of four, this is a home that lives as fully as it looks: impeccably considered, genuinely inviting, and altogether alive.
