Grand Details

In some houses, it’s the big features that take centre stage: the gigantic sofas and decorative fireplaces; the super king beds and weighty dining tables. Not so at this home in Melbourne’s Glen Iris. Here, it’s the details which stand out: the marble splashback and rangehood; the playful, bauble-like sconces, paddle-shaped chopping boards and vivid, green cabinetry. 

The Côte D’Azur marble which comprises the kitchen worktops, splashback and hood exterior is a stormy blend of blacks and greys, with flashes of amber, on a white backdrop. In order to amplify the theatre of this finish, supporting accents which lift out select tones in the marble need to come into play. Their inclusion highlights the marble’s dramatic black veining, unifying and anchoring the space. 

Cohesive Design

Even door openings get the Iver treatment, with the Rectangular Sliding Door Pull in Matt Black creating a sense of cohesion in the pantry. “We chose Iver hardware as it complemented the design style of the home,” say South Melbourne’s Bloom Interior Design, who redesigned the interior of this 1990s building. “It’s simple, elegant and high quality.” 

The house’s interior largely features soothing, pale tones, but these pops of colour and drama lift it into a realm of fun as well as calm, befitting the young family who call it home. “Our client loves colour,” say Bloom Interior Design. “We went with deep blues and greens in the formal sitting room and study, complemented by Côte D’Azur and green marble. The kitchen, pantry and laundry feature softer tones and terrazzo.” 

It is the combination of finishes like these, brought together by Iver’s Helsinki range, which make this not only a home in which to live, but one where inspiration and creativity can thrive. This is a house that’s exciting; thrilling even—a lesson on the impact that small details can make.
