Cabin Kitchen by Hunting for George

Overview

Along the breathtaking Great Ocean Road, near the Twelve Apostles, this quaint 1980s timber cabin has undergone a remarkable transformation. A year in the making, this renovation has been a labour of love—thoughtfully blending modern design elements with the warmth and character of the original cabin.

For interior designer Lucy Glade-Wright, the kitchen makeover stands as one of her all-time favourite transformations. While the original floor plan remained largely intact, carefully considered design refinements have consequentially improved the space’s efficiency and aesthetic appeal.

A Dream Kitchen, One Year in the Making

The new kitchen features a sophisticated yet inviting material palette. Mirage Lake Quartzite benchtops set a luxurious tone, their natural veining adding depth and movement to the space. The cabinetry, finished in Topiary Green, introduces a rich, grounding contrast, while wood accents lend warmth and texture.

Above, a natural wood ceiling enhances the cosy, cabin-like atmosphere, complementing the flooring that flows throughout the space. The seamless integration of these materials creates a kitchen that is both stylish and practical.

Details in the Design

Details make the design, and in this kitchen, every element has been carefully considered. For Lucy Glade-Wright, it was important to curate a deliberate mix of finishes, creating a layered, honed, and gathered aesthetic that makes the space feel lived-in and welcoming.

The Iver Sarlat Cabinet Pulls in Signature Brass were chosen for their classic form and distinguished presence, adding a timeless and refined touch that stands out against the deep green cabinetry. Their bold profile enhances the kitchen’s strong design language, bringing a sense of substance and balance to the space.

Living in the home during a renovation is never easy, but the final result makes every challenge worthwhile. Now, this once-overlooked cabin kitchen is a welcoming and character-filled space, balancing contemporary functionality with a nod to its rustic origins. With a carefully curated palette and a harmonious mix of finishes, every detail has been chosen to create a kitchen that feels effortlessly timeless and deeply personal.
