Architectural hardware is one of the most tactile interactions you have with a home: the distinct weight of a lever turned at the start of your day, the smooth pull of a handle, and the reassuring click of a door closing behind you. These pieces are meant to be felt, lived with and kept for a lifetime, which is why every piece starts as solid brass.
As outlined in Door Handles and Architectural Hardware: The Complete Guide, door hardware deserves the same creative consideration as a floor plan, or colour palette, not a final afterthought. Every Iver Collection elevates hardware to a primary design object, on par with a home’s finest furniture, lighting and structural flow.

Honouring the rich, textured character of solid forged brass, every surface you see or touch, including the euro cylinder, is crafted for elegance, simplicity and longevity, across every collection.
Rust forms on iron and steel. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, so it does not rust. Instead, the surface can develop a rich patina over time. Protective finishes help preserve its tone and delay this natural change.
A brass-coloured plating is only a surface layer and can wear at the points your hand touches most, eventually exposing the base metal beneath. Solid brass, by contrast, can be restored and re-polished decades into the future.
Pick up an Iver lever and its quality registers before you have even thought about it. The weight of solid brass gives it a substance you can feel in your hand, something a screen or spec sheet cannot convey.
A stable, premium base metal allows Iver’s finishes to sit evenly and perform over time, from mirror-bright polish to dark, hand-aged bronze.

Iver architectural hardware is tested, rated and warranted.
A ten-year mechanical warranty is possible because of brass itself. Its density keeps pins, springs and latches precisely aligned. Its natural self-lubrication also keeps parts turning smoothly for decades, without binding, sagging or wear.

|---|---|
| Material | Every surface you see or touch, including the euro cylinder, is solid brass. Internal components vary by material. |
| Cycle tested | Selected door levers on rose, tested to D8, 500,000 cycles (AS4145.2:2008). |
| Fire rated | Levers, knobs and pull handles to two hours on FireCore and E-Core doors (AS1530.4:2014). Accessories and the Puerto Collection are not fire rated. |
| Mechanical warranty | Ten years on door furniture: levers, knobs, pull handles, locks and latches. Cabinetware is fully protected by standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. |
| Finishes | Ten across the range, in two groups. Five carry a lifetime finish warranty: Brushed Gold PVD, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, Polished Nickel, Distressed Nickel. The living, lacquered and powder-coated finishes sit outside: Polished Brass, Brushed Brass, Signature Brass, Satin Nickel and Matt Black. The first three sit under a clear lacquer, so wear reveals a similar brass tone. Satin Nickel’s finish is a warm silvery hue, protected by a clear lacquer, while Matt Black’s coating is opaque. On both, wear will reveal brass gold, not silver or black. Protective lacquers on finishes outside the Lifetime warranty: Polished Brass – clear gloss lacquer Brushed Brass – clear satin lacquer Signature Brass – thin clear lacquer Satin Nickel – clear satin lacquer Matt Black – flat monochrome coating designed for durability, without a delicate surface lacquer |
| Accessibility | Baltimore and Oslo levers are DDA compliant. |
“Brass” on a product page can describe the material itself or simply the colour of the finish. If it is not stated plainly, check. These simple tests can help, and using more than one will give you greater confidence.
| Solid brass | Plated | |
|---|---|---|
| Magnet | Not magnetic. A fridge magnet will not pull. | A magnet pulls: there is a magnetic base metal underneath. |
| Colour | The same warm yellow all the way through, so a scratch or a knock won’t reveal a different colour. | Plating can scratch and chip, showing silver, grey or copper underneath. |
| Weight | Heavy for its size. | Light for what it appears to be. |
| Knock | Bell-like ring when tapped. | Thuds. |
| Time | Lasts decades and can be re-polished repeatedly. | Shorter lifespan. Surface wears away, exposing the base metal; hard to restore. |
Architectural hardware proves itself over time. A brass-coloured finish will gradually wear at points of contact, eventually exposing the base metal beneath. All Iver pieces are forged from solid brass, with protective finishes applied where appropriate. Iver’s brass finishes can be restored and re-polished decades later, and on every finish the solid brass base helps it last longer.
Iver’s lineage is rooted in material honesty. As part of Southern Design Group, founded in Adelaide in 1982 as Traditional Brass Co, the brand grew from a passion for restoration and a frustration at the lack of authentic architectural fittings. More than 40 years later, that commitment to authenticity and integrity continues to shape every Iver piece.
The same values extend to how things are made. Southern Design Group is a Certified B Corporation, the first architectural hardware company in Australia to achieve the certification.

Solid brass runs through door levers, knobs, pull handles, sliding door pulls and cabinetware, in up to ten finishes across seven whole-of-home collections.
Every surface a user sees or touches, including the euro cylinder, is solid brass. Internal components like lock bodies, tube latch bodies, springs and internal mechanisms vary by material, with brass utilised specifically where its machinability and long-term smooth operation matter most.
No. Brass contains no iron, so it cannot rust. Instead, it can develop a natural surface patina over time. Iver finishes help protect the brass and preserve its tone.
Yes. The difference is what lies beneath the finish. Brass-coloured coatings can wear through at high-touch points, exposing the base metal underneath. Every Iver piece is forged from solid brass and machined for lasting performance, giving each finish a stable base that helps it last longer. Iver’s brass finishes can also be restored and re-polished decades later.
Start with the weight. Solid brass is noticeable in the hand. You can also test with a magnet, check a hidden edge for a consistent brass core, or tap it with a coin and listen for a clear ring rather than a dull thud. Use more than one test for greater confidence.
Not always. Iver uses solid brass screws or high-tensile stainless steel, depending on the job. Brass gives the closest finish match but is softer, so pre-drill pilot holes to avoid shearing. Stainless steel is used where greater hardness is needed, such as fixing hinges into dense timber. All fasteners are finish-matched as closely as possible, though slight variation may occur.
Yes. Brass is a circular material, and copper and brass scrap retain their value exceptionally well over time. Southern Design Group recycles brass alongside steel, cardboard, plastics, organics and electronics.
Find your local retailer and pick a piece up in person. Solid brass is far easier to feel than it is to describe.
